On April 4, 2024, at the prestigious Made for Europe competition, tenth-grade student Ana Ciofu from Tehnicall College Emanuil Ungureanu in Timisoara (Romania) demonstrated that talent and dedication can lead to victory. The competition, gathered participants from the entire Timiș county to present final products from European projects, serving as a platform for showcasing the ideas and creativity of young individuals.
Ana Ciofu participated in the competition with her project – Part I of the Young Journalists’ Guide, developed within the EUPress project. It aims to guide young journalists towards a critical and conscientious approach to journalism practice, emphasizing the essential skills needed to effectively report on key European issues.
Additionally, the student presented the project’s YouTube channel, a valuable tool for content distribution and interaction with the audience. This channel was skillfully crafted by her classmate, Ioniță Adelian, under the guidance of project coordinators. The channel provides a digital platform to bring journalistic materials to life, making them available to a wider audience and facilitating dialogue and exchange of ideas.
An important moment was the presentation of the inverted pyramid technique, a renowned journalistic strategy that aims to provide essential information from the beginning of an article or report. Ana illustrated this technique through the five fundamental questions of journalism – Who? What? When? Why? How? – challenging the jury members to respond and interact in a captivating manner.
The student achieved first place and is a source of pride for the entire school. Her remarkable performance demonstrates that passion, dedication, and sustained effort can lead to success in the field of journalism and that young people have an essential role in shaping the future of Europe through their voice in the media.
